Nojimasaki Lighthouse is one of Japan’s first eight Western-style lighthouses, located in Shirahama-cho, Minamiboso City, Chiba Prefecture. It was built in 1869 (Meiji 2) according to a design by French engineer Verny, and the current lighthouse was rebuilt in 1925 (Taisho 14). It is a 24-meter-tall white lighthouse, and from the observation deck you can enjoy a spectacular view that stretches all the way to the Izu Islands. Located at the southernmost tip of the Boso Peninsula, it is a popular spot where you can see both the sunset and the sunrise. It is designated as a national registered tangible cultural property and is also affectionately known as the “Swan Lighthouse.”
