Mt. Tomisu was named after its resemblance to Mt. Fuji, and from Mt. Tomisu Park, where the live camera is located, you can look down on the Ozu Basin and Hijikawa River. Mt. Tomisu is also called Tsutsujiyama, and is planted with 60,000 azaleas and 3,000 cherry trees.
Mount Tomisu Park is located at the summit of a mountain 320 meters above sea level, and is known as a famous spot for cherry blossoms and azaleas in the spring. The cherry blossoms are mostly Somei-Yoshino, and about 3,000 trees bloom along the mountain trail, covering the entire park in gorgeous pink. The best time to see them is from late March to mid-April, when the Tourist Sakura Festival is also held.
From late April to early May, about 63,000 azaleas paint the mountainside in vibrant pink, red, and white, creating a spectacular landscape. The park is particularly crowded with cherry blossom viewers during Golden Week, and from the observation deck you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Ozu Basin and the Hijikawa River.
