Mt. Bandai is an active volcano with an altitude of 1,819m located in Yama-gun, Fukushima Prefecture, and is one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains. It consists of three peaks: Kengamine, Kushigamine, and Mt. Akahani, and is also called Aizu Fuji. A large eruption in 1888 caused the mountain to collapse, creating the beautiful lakes and marshes of Urabandai. You can see Lake Inawashiro and the surrounding mountains from the steep mountain trail.
