Shirakaba Ranch in Fujimimachi, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture is a vast ranch that spreads at an altitude of about 1,400m near the summit of Mount Akagi. It has a history of being used as a ranch since the Meiji era, and the 95ha site is untouched by nature.
Particularly famous is the colony of about 100,000 Renge Azaleas, which are in full bloom from early to mid-June every year. The contrast between the fresh green of the birch forest and the scarlet-orange Renge Azaleas is truly spectacular.
Currently, sheep are grazing here, adding color to the idyllic landscape of the ranch. The ranch is usually off-limits to the public, but for a limited time only, local guides hold special tours, allowing visitors to explore the “secret garden” that is usually not open to the public. The ranch can also be viewed from the Mount Akagi Tourist Information Center.
