Tsutsujigaoka Park in Tatebayashi City, Gunma Prefecture, is one of the most famous azalea spots in Japan, with the scenic spot of “Tsutsujigaoka”. More than 100 varieties and about 10,000 azaleas are planted, and the ancient trees, including the “Koto Naishi Iai no Tsutsuji”, which is estimated to be over 800 years old, are a must-see and are also a nationally designated scenic spot.
The best time to see the azaleas is from mid-April to early May, during which the “Azalea Festival” is held and various events such as a ferry boat service on Jounuma are held. The park also has an azalea video learning center and a cafe, where you can learn about the history and charm of azaleas. You can also see lotus flowers in summer and irises in early summer, making it a popular park where you can enjoy flowers of all seasons.
You can check the azalea blooming status on the Tatebayashi City official website, “Tatebayashi City Tsutsujigaoka Park.”
