This is a live camera installed at Tokachidake Bougakudai Observatory in Shirokane, Biei-cho, Kamikawa-gun, Hokkaido. You can see Tokachidake. It is operated by the Japan Meteorological Agency. You can also check the weather forecast, rain cloud radar and map.
Tokachidake is an active volcano at an altitude of 2,077m that straddles Biei-cho, Kamifurano-cho and Shintoku-cho in central Hokkaido. It is the main peak of the Tokachidake mountain range in Daisetsuzan National Park and has been selected as one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan. Active volcanic activity can be seen near the summit, and smoke is rising.
Tokachidake Bougakudai is an observation deck located at an altitude of 930m on the middle slope of Tokachidake. It is the base for climbing Tokachidake, and you can see Tokachidake towering majestically before your eyes and the cityscapes of Biei and Furano below you. There is a promenade of about 1km, and in the summer you can observe alpine plants.
The autumn foliage at Bogakudai can be enjoyed along with the majestic view of the Tokachi Mountain Range. The best time to see it is usually from late September to early October, when the Japanese stone pine and Erman’s birch trees turn red and yellow. In particular, when the first snow falls, the contrast between the snow-covered mountains and the autumn leaves creates a beautiful, spectacular view. There is also a walking trail, where you can feel the power of Tokachi-dake, an active volcano, as you stroll.
