Tsurugisaki Lighthouse, located in Minami Shimoura-cho, Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a white Western-style lighthouse that illuminates the Uraga Strait, the entrance to Tokyo Bay, at the southeastern tip of the Miura Peninsula. It was first lit in 1871 (Meiji 4) as the seventh Western-style lighthouse in Japan, and the current building is the second one rebuilt after the Great Kanto Earthquake. It is located in a scenic area that has been selected as one of the “50 Scenic Spots of Kanagawa,” and the surrounding area offers a spectacular view that stretches all the way to the Boso Peninsula.
