Mt. Nikko Shirane is an active volcano located on the border between Tochigi Prefecture and Gunma Prefecture, with an altitude of 2,578m, and is the highest peak in the Kanto region. It is designated as a special protected area of Nikko National Park and is home to a rich variety of alpine plants. From the summit, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and lakes. Climbing is mainly done by using the ropeway at Marunuma Kogen, and there are courses that can be enjoyed by beginners. Summer alpine plants and autumn leaves are popular, and the climbing season is from June to October.
