Setoai Gorge is a gorge located downstream of Kawamata Dam, upstream of the Kinugawa River in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture. The 100m high cliffs stretch for about 2km, and it is known as one of the “100 Scenic Spots of Tochigi” and a famous spot for autumn leaves. From the suspension bridge over the cliffs of the gorge, you can see a spectacular view of the cliffs up close.
A promenade has been developed from the Kawamata Dam parking lot to the “Watarashai Suspension Bridge”, and it is about an hour round trip, about 2km long.
Access by car is about 70 minutes from Imaichi IC on the Nikko Utsunomiya Road via National Route 121 and Prefectural Route 23. By public transport, take the city bus from Tobu Kinugawa Onsen Station to Meotobuchi Onsen, get off at the Kawamata Heikezuka bus stop, and walk for about 30 minutes.
Parking is free and can accommodate about 20-50 standard cars (temporary parking is available during the autumn foliage season).
