Mt. Tsurugi is 1,955m above sea level, the second highest peak in Shikoku and one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan. Every year on April 29th, a grand mountain opening ceremony is held with the parade of the portable shrine of Tsurugi Shrine. There is also a lift installed up to the center of the mountain trail.
The Mt. Tsurugi lift is a tourist lift that supports climbing Mt. Tsurugi in Higashi-Iya Sugo, Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture. It connects Minokoshi Station at an altitude of about 1,420m to Nishijima Station at an altitude of about 1,750m, and you can easily climb about 330m in altitude in about 15 minutes.
From the lift, you can enjoy views of the primeval beech forest and the natural beauty of the four seasons, and feel like you’re walking in the air. From Nishijima Station, the final stop, there is a mountain trail that takes about an hour and a half to walk to the summit of Mt. Tsurugi, and you can aim for the summit according to your level of fitness. During the climbing season, the area is bustling with tourists and climbers, making it an important means of transportation for sightseeing around Mt. Tsurugi.
