Mt. Takao is a mountain with an altitude of 599m, and you can go up to about 472m above sea level at the middle of the mountain by cable car or lift. There are three courses for climbing, and you can reach the summit in about 1 hour and 30 minutes. From the summit, you can see Mt. Fuji, Sagami Bay, Okuchichibu Mountains, Nikko Mountains, Jusanshu, and more.
The best time to see cherry blossoms on Mt. Takao is from early to mid-April. They bloom 1 to 2 weeks later than in the city center, and can be enjoyed in various places such as in front of Kiyotaki Station, along the cable car line, Yakuoin Temple, and the summit. Trail 1 is a recommended cherry blossom viewing route, with approximately 2,000 Somei-yoshino and Yamazakura cherry trees in full bloom. The flowering period varies depending on the altitude, so you can enjoy the cherry blossoms for a long period of time.
The autumn leaves at Mt. Takao usually bloom from mid-November to early December. There are many places to see the autumn leaves from around Kiyotaki Cable Car Station at the base of Mt. Takao to the summit. A maple festival is also held during the autumn foliage season.
