Mount Takao is 599m high, and you can reach the middle of the mountain (around 472m above sea level) by cable car or chairlift. There are three hiking routes, and the summit can be reached in about 1 hour and 30 minutes. From the summit, you can see Mount Fuji, Sagami Bay, the Okuchichibu Mountains, the Nikko Mountains, and the Jusanshu region.
The best time to see the cherry blossoms on Mount Takao is from early to mid-April. They bloom 1-2 weeks later than in central Tokyo and can be enjoyed in various locations, including in front of Kiyotaki Station, along the cable car line, at Yakuoin Temple, and at the summit. Approximately 2,000 Somei Yoshino and mountain cherry trees bloom, and Route 1 is the recommended cherry blossom viewing course. Because the blooming period varies depending on the altitude, you can enjoy the cherry blossoms for an extended period.
The autumn foliage on Mount Takao is typically from mid-November to early December. There are numerous spots to enjoy the autumn colors from near the Kiyotaki Cable Car Station at the foot of Mount Takao all the way to the summit. A maple leaf festival is also held during the autumn foliage season.
