The Tottori Sand Dunes are sand hills that spread along the Sea of Japan coast of Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture. Over the years, sand that flowed into the sea was blown inland by the wind to form the hills. The sand dunes are 2.4 km north to south and 16 km east to west, and are designated as a special protection area of the San’in Kaigan National Park.
The Tottori Sand Dunes are also designated as a national natural monument, and the sand dune called “Umanose” (horse back), which is about 47 meters high, is particularly popular as a scenic spot. In addition to walking, you can enjoy a variety of activities such as camel riding, sandboarding, and paragliding, and it is also recommended to watch the sunrise and sunset.
