Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple is a Jodo Shinshu Honganji temple. It is a temple directly under Nishi Honganji Temple, whose head temple is Nishi Honganji Temple in Kyoto. The main hall is a rare building in Japan that imitates ancient Buddhist architecture, with stained glass and sculptures that evoke the route of Buddhism’s introduction. In the center of the main hall is the Amida Buddha statue, the principal image of the temple, said to have been hand-carved by Prince Shotoku.
