Seasonal Highlights of Kurumayama Plateau and Kirigamine
Kurumayama Plateau is a highland resort where you can enjoy nature in every season.
Spring, April to May: The Venus Line opens fully, and visitors can enjoy a fresh green highland drive. The observation lifts also begin operating, and the contrast between remaining snow and new greenery is beautiful.
Summer, June to August: From mid-July to early August, day lilies bloom across the area from Kurumayama Shoulder to Kirigamine, coloring the plateau with golden flowers. Matsumushiso usually reaches its best season from late August to early September. More than 600 kinds of alpine plants grow around Kurumayama Plateau, making hiking and lift rides popular.
Autumn, September to October: From mid-September, silver pampas grass begins to wave across the plateau, and autumn foliage reaches its peak in October. Many visitors enjoy combining Kurumayama with Kirigamine and Yashima Wetland for a scenic autumn route.
Winter, December to March: Kurumayama Kogen Ski Resort opens, offering slopes with a maximum gradient of 38 degrees and a longest run of 2,000 meters. The views from the slopes are excellent, and a snow park is also available.
Access and Parking for Kurumayama Plateau

By car: It takes about 30 minutes from Suwa IC on the Chuo Expressway, or about 40 minutes from Suwa-Minami IC. Access is via the Venus Line. During the peak day-lily and autumn foliage seasons, nearby parking lots can become crowded from the morning, so an early start is recommended. The Kurumayama Shoulder parking area often fills during busy seasons, and the live camera can help you check local conditions in advance.
By train and bus: From JR Chino Station on the Chuo Main Line, take the Alpico Kotsu bus on the Shirakaba-ko / Kurumayama Kogen route for about 40 minutes and get off at the final stop, Kurumayama Kogen.
Approximate travel time from Tokyo is about 3 hours by car via the Chuo Expressway. From Nagoya, it takes about 3.5 hours.

Elevation ranges from about 1,560 meters at the base to 1,925 meters at the summit. The resort has 8 courses, with about 30% beginner, 40% intermediate, and 30% advanced terrain. The longest run is about 2,000 meters, the maximum gradient is 38 degrees, and there are 9 lifts. Snowboarding is allowed across the resort, and a snow park is available.
From the slopes, you can enjoy views of Mt. Fuji, Yatsugatake, and the Southern Alps. Artificial snowmaking helps maintain stable snow conditions, and the resort is suitable for families as well as advanced skiers. The ski season is usually from mid-December to late March.
