This is a live camera installed at Jigokudani Monkey Park in Yamanouchi-machi, Shimotakai-gun, Nagano Prefecture. You can watch Japanese macaques, also known as “snow monkeys,” bathing in the hot springs in real time.

The live camera offers both still images and videos, with the camera angle switching at regular intervals. You can also check the monkeys’ private open-air bath, the Yokoyu River, and the surrounding weather through the camera. While still images show the latest footage, if monkeys are not visible, they may have appeared in past images.

Jigokudani Monkey Park opened in 1964. Located in the Yokoyu River Valley, which originates in the Joshin’etsu Kogen National Park and Shiga Kogen, it is internationally known as “the only place in the world where you can see monkeys bathing in hot springs.” Please use this to check the weather, snow conditions, and crowd levels before your visit.

Live Camera Footage and Streaming Information

The Jigokudani Monkey Park’s live camera feed is streamed 24/7, 365 days a year, through the park’s official website. There are two types of feeds: still images and videos. The camera angle automatically switches at regular intervals. Still images allow you to see the latest images immediately, while videos (live broadcasts) allow you to watch real-time footage.

The video shows Japanese macaques bathing in the hot springs, as well as the monkey-only open-air bath, the Yokoyu River, and the surrounding weather and snow conditions. It’s viewable at night and compatible with PCs, smartphones, and tablets. Even if monkeys aren’t visible on camera, they may appear if you check again later.

Snow Monkey Hot Spring Bathing Season/Best Viewing Calendar

Jigokudani Monkey Park is world-famous for the sight of Japanese macaques, or “snow monkeys,” bathing in hot springs amidst the winter snowscape. The best time to see monkeys bathing in the hot springs is during the winter months from December to March, when snow covers the ground. The sight of monkeys immersed up to their shoulders in the steaming open-air baths is a breathtaking spectacle unique to this time of year.

In spring (April-May), you can see monkeys freely moving around amidst the fresh greenery, as well as adorable baby monkeys. Summer (June-August) allows you to observe monkeys roaming freely against the backdrop of the lush valley, while autumn (September-November) offers stunning scenery of autumn leaves and wild monkeys.

While Jigokudani Monkey Park offers unique experiences in every season, we recommend checking the live camera to see “the monkeys’ activities today” in real time. It’s also a great resource for checking the weather and snow conditions before your visit.
