Zenkoji is a non-sectarian Buddhist temple that enshrines the Ikko Sanzon Amida Nyorai, said to be Japan’s oldest hidden Buddha. It has a history of about 1,400 years, having been founded in 644, and has many cultural properties, including the main hall, which is a national treasure, and the main gate, which is an important cultural property. As it is a non-sectarian temple, it is visited by many worshipers from both Japan and abroad.

From April 3rd (Sunday) to June 29th (Wednesday), 2020, the opening ceremony was held once every seven years. In 2015, the number of worshipers at the time of the opening reached 7 million, and the area around Zenkoji became very crowded.
