The best time to see the cherry blossoms is usually in early April.
Himeji Castle is especially crowded during the cherry blossom viewing season (early April), on holidays, and during Golden Week, with long lines forming between 11am and 3pm for entry and for the stairs to the castle tower. Parking lots and surrounding roads are also prone to congestion, so it is recommended to use public transportation. It is relatively quiet between 8am and 11am and 3pm and 5pm on weekdays, and between 8am and 10am on holidays, so this is a good time to avoid the crowds.
