This Mt. Fuji live camera is installed at Satta Pass in Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It lets you check the current view of Mt. Fuji in real time, along with traffic congestion and road closure status on National Route 1 Fuji Yui Bypass, the Tomei Expressway, and the JR Tokaido Main Line.

Satta Pass is one of Shizuoka Prefecture’s premier driving and photography spots, offering a view of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay from almost the same angle Hiroshige Utagawa used to depict “Yui” in his Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido. From the observation deck, at an elevation of about 540 meters, you can take in the blue waters of Suruga Bay, a snow-capped Mt. Fuji, and the major transportation arteries running below — National Route 1, the Tomei Expressway, and the JR Tokaido Main Line — all at once.

The camera is operated jointly by the Shizuoka City Public Relations Division, the Fuji Sabo Office, and the Shizuoka National Highway Office, and offers both still images and video footage. You can also check the weather forecast, rain cloud radar, and a map of the area, making it useful for planning a drive or sightseeing trip and for checking on disaster preparedness.

Parking and access to the Satta Pass observation deck

Satta Pass has dedicated parking near the Tomei Expressway’s Yui Parking Area and along National Route 1, making it easy to reach by car. The free Satta Pass observation deck parking lot sits directly below the lookout and has space for a few regular cars. It can fill up during the crowded autumn foliage and New Year’s sunrise seasons, so an early-morning visit is recommended. If you’re on foot, you can walk the Tokai Nature Trail from either JR Yui Station or JR Okitsu Station — about 40 to 50 minutes from Yui Station, or about 60 minutes from Okitsu Station, to reach the observation deck.

Traffic on National Route 1 / the Tomei Expressway and winter road closure information

From the Satta Pass observation deck, you can see both National Route 1’s Fuji Yui Bypass running along the mountainside and the Tomei Expressway running along the coast at the same time. Heavy rain, typhoons, or snowfall can trigger road closures or speed restrictions, and the live camera lets you check the current traffic and restriction status in real time. In some years, snow accumulation or icy road surfaces cause winter closures, so if you’re heading out in winter, it’s a good idea to check the latest traffic information alongside the live camera footage beforehand.

Best season to see Mt. Fuji and hiking course highlights

Mt. Fuji tends to look its clearest from Satta Pass on fine winter mornings between November and February, when the air is at its clearest. You can enjoy the contrast between a snow-capped Mt. Fuji and the blue waters of Suruga Bay, and the night view and sunrise are also popular times to visit. Cherry blossoms are generally at their best from late March to early April, and the autumn foliage from mid to late November. A hiking course that forms part of the Tokai Nature Trail is maintained around the observation deck, with information boards along the way referencing Hiroshige Utagawa’s ukiyo-e prints. Checking Mt. Fuji’s visibility and the weather on the live camera before you set out will help you get more out of your walk.
