Shimoda Port is a historic port in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was one of the first ports in Japan to be opened by the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan in 1854. Located on the east side of Cape Irozaki at the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula, it is also known as the fishing base with the largest landing of alfonsino in Japan. It is a base for tourism and fishing, with the Black Ship Festival and regular routes to the Izu Islands. It was designated as a port of refuge in 1951, and facilities have been developed to prepare for marine accidents.
