Lake Chuzenji is one of Japan’s leading highland lakes in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, and is a scenic spot that represents Nikko National Park. Located at an altitude of 1,269 meters, it was formed by the eruption of Mt. Nantai about 20,000 years ago. The lake has a circumference of about 25 kilometers and a maximum depth of about 163 meters, and the autumn leaves of maples, sumac trees, beech trees, etc. are beautiful, especially from mid-October to early November. The lakeside is home to Nikko Futarasan Shrine Chugushi and villas of foreign embassies, and you can also enjoy sightseeing boats and boating. The natural beauty of the four seasons and historical buildings blend together to make this a popular tourist spot in Nikko.
Mt. Nantai is a 2,486m mountain that stands on the north shore of Lake Chuzenji in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture. It is a representative mountain of the Nikko mountain range and has been an object of worship since the 780s. At the top of the mountain is the inner shrine of Nikko Futarasan Shrine, and it is also called Mt. Futara.
ZEN RESORT NIKKO is a glamping field and cafe dining in Oku-Nikko. It offers activities such as fishing, kayaking, and SUP (stand-up paddle boarding) on Lake Chuzenji, as well as a cafe dining where you can enjoy dishes made with local ingredients while looking out at Mt. Nantai and Chuzenji.
