Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple is a Tendai sect temple founded in the Nara period. The precincts of Rinnoji Temple, Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and Nikko Futarasan Shrine are designated as national historic sites as Nikko Sannai and are registered as a World Heritage Site as Shrines and Temples of Nikko. The main hall of Rinnoji Temple was built in the Heian period and is the largest building in eastern Japan. Sanbutsu-do Hall enshrines three principal images: Senju Kannon, Amida Nyorai, and Bato Kannon.
