Matsuyama Castle is located in the center of Matsuyama City, with a main castle at the top of Mt. Shiroyama (Katsuyama), and Ninomaru and Sannomaru at the foot of the mountain.It is a Hirayama castle built by the Sengoku feudal lord Yoshiaki Kato. The castle tower is one of the 12 existing castle towers that were built before the Edo period, and structures such as the main tower, gate, and moat are designated as important cultural properties.
At Matsuyama Castle, approximately 200 cherry blossom trees, including Someiyoshino cherry, Camellia kanzakura, and Oshimazakura, bloom at different times, so you can enjoy cherry blossom viewing for a long period of time. It is one of the “100 famous cherry blossom spots in Japan”. The collaboration between the cherry blossoms in full bloom near the main enclosure and the castle tower is one of the best views of Matsuyama Castle.
