Miharutakizakura is one of the three major cherry blossoms in Japan, along with Neodani Usuzumizakura (Motosu City, Gifu Prefecture) and Yamataka Jindaizakura (Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture), and is the first cherry tree in Japan to be designated as a natural monument.

The tree is estimated to be 1000 years old, 13.5m high, 11.3m around the roots, and branches 25m east-west and 20m north-south. The variety is Benishidarezakura, and it was named Takizakura because the flowers that bloom from the branches extending in all directions look like a waterfall.

In 2020, it will be 100 years since it was designated as a natural monument. The best time to see them is usually mid-April.
